What's Involved

If you are looking for a career in, or a career change into teaching, this course will provide you with the basic tools to get you started and meet the government requirements of the first stage qualification. The Level 3 programme is offered through TQUK and runs over 15 weeks for 3 hours per week. We offer a day or evening provision with two start dates planned throughout the year, subject to numbers enrolling.

Modules will cover:

  • Roles, responsibilities and legislation;
  • How to plan for sessions;
  • How to prepare and develop resources;
  • How to overcome barriers to learning;
  • Managing the learning environment.

Additionally, you will look at theories and quality assurance.

Entry Requirements

You are required to commit to:

  • A successful written assessment test;
  • Interview;
  • A high level of commitment to study.

Where will it take me?

Successful completion can lead to future employment as a teacher or trainer in the Lifelong Learning and Skills sector. You may also progress onto further stages of the teaching qualification framework, dependent on secured teaching hours and a level 3 qualification in your own subject specialism.

Course Assessment Method

This programme is assessed in the following ways:

  • Through portfolio evidence;
  • Written assignments;
  • Weekly log;
  • Compulsory micro-teach;
  • Observation report on your micro-teach performance.

  • The role and responsibilities of a teacher;
  • Developing session planning skills;
  • Assessment and learning;
  • Legislation and record-keeping;
  • Managing behaviours;
  • Quality assurance;
  • Prepare and deliver a micro-teach;
  • Evaluate and reflect on own practice.
