What's Involved

The BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport provides an introduction to the sports sector for people looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas, these include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching, sports development and the outdoors environment.

This is a one year course covering 7 units and is the equivalent of 1.5 A-Levels. It is predominately theory-based with some practical sessions on the timetable.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE's at Grade 4 (C) or above inc English and maths. A BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Sport at Merit level or equivalent qualification. In addition to your qualifications, you will need to supply a reference from your previous school, college or employer and complete a satisfactory interview.

Where will it take me?

This course can lead to progression onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

Course Assessment Method

The course is assessed by a variety of methods: Practical demonstration; Written assignments; Posters; Leaflets; Presentations.

You will be studying the following units:

  • Anatomy & Physiology (exam);
  • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (exam);
  • Professional development in the sports industry;
  • Sports Leadership;
  • Application of fitness testing;
  • Sports psychology;
  • Coaching for sports performance;
