What's Involved

If you are looking to build a career in sport, the BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport provides an ideal introduction to the sports sector. It will familiarise you with the potential occupational areas which include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching, sports development and the outdoor environment. It is also a stepping stone onto the Level 2 First Certificate.

This is a one year course covering 10 units. It is predominantly theory-based with some practical sessions on the timetable.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE's at grade 2 including English and maths or a Pass in a relevant Entry Level qualification. In addition to your qualifications, you will need to supply a reference from your previous school, college or employer, as well as undertaking a Skillsbuilder and free writing assessment, following the successful completion of an interview.

Where will it take me?

This course can lead to progression onto the BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Sport providing good attendance, punctuality, behaviour and work is demonstrated.

Employment opportunities include various jobs in the sport and leisure industry in the following areas:

  • Exercise and fitness;
  • Coaching;
  • Sports development;
  • Outdoor environment.

The course is assessed by a variety of methods including:
