What's Involved

The BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Sport provides an introduction to the sports sector for people looking to build a career in sport, within one of its occupational areas. These include careers in exercise and fitness, coaching, sports development and the outdoors environment. The scheme is aimed at young players with aspirations to improve their football skills, but who also appreciate the importance of continuing their studies. It offers the opportunity to gain a recognised educational qualification whilst receiving football coaching and playing in the Under 19 College League.

This is a one year course covering 7 units and is the equivalent of 1.5 A-Levels. It is predominately theory-based with some practical sessions on the timetable. During the course, you will attend football training, as well as classroom sessions that will cover a variety of issues within the sports and leisure industry.

Entry Requirements

Successful football trials and interview; 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or; A BTEC level 2 First Certificate in Sport at Merit level or equivalent qualification; In addition to your qualifications, you will need to supply a reference from your previous school, college or employer and complete a satisfactory interview.

Where will it take me?

This course can lead to progression onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

Employment opportunities include various jobs within the sports and leisure industry in the following areas:

Exercise and Fitness; Coaching; Sports development; Outdoor environment.

The course is assessed by a variety of methods:

  • Presentations.

  • Anatomy & Physiology (exam);
  • Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (exam);
  • Professional development in the sports industry;
  • Sports Leadership;
  • Application of fitness testing;
  • Sports psychology;
  • Coaching for sports performance;
