Performing Arts students really hit the heights!
Talented actors, singers and dancers at Havering Sixth Form College certainly rose up last week when they performed the hit Broadway Musical ‘In The Heights’ to an appreciative audience.
Written in a hip-hop style by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also penned the West End show ‘Hamilton’, it meant the students had to learn the complex lyric and rhythm patterns that go with that style of music – and audiences over the three days of shows agreed that they pulled it off magnificently!
The students were all from the Performing Arts BTEC course and, so that everyone had an opportunity to show off their talents, there were two casts who performed two shows each.
Deputy Principal Paul Nutter said: “This was a fantastic show. It was truly riveting, poignant, memorable and entertaining. It was stretching and challenging and showcased the amazing talents of our Performing Arts students, the technicians behind the scenes and the band. The teachers and students should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
The Performing Arts course covers all the professional performing arts disciplines including singing, dancing and drama and most students on the course go on to study performance-related courses at university or drama school.
