Cross-section of sounds at Solo Showcases
Talented singers and musicians performed a variety of pieces – from heavy metal to classical – at a series of Solo Showcases.
The individual sets by 15 students on the Music Performance BTEC Subsidiary Diploma course were well received by the audiences and provided an insight into the eclectic mix of styles and genres of music favoured by the young performers.
The students who performed were: Eleanor Hails – singer; Ben Green – guitarist; Denis Sahnovics – violinist; Sara Freire Tinta – singer; Romaya Owusu-Ansah – bass guitarist; Joseph Wilson – guitarist; Skye Ryan – singer and guitarist; Daniel Warren – pianist; Adebayo Olakunle-Ajayi – saxophonist; Jemma Cumberbatch – pianist; Maiya Walker – pianist; Caitlyn Morley – singer; George Kovalenko – Electric guitarist and singer; Laila El-Shafie – singer; and Alexia Tumbaga – pianist and singer.
Pieces played or sung during the four separate concerts were from artists as diverse as the Foo Fighters, Britney Spears, Metallica, The Jackson 5, Loren Allred, Johannes Brahms, Rachmaninoff and Billie Eilish.
Sound Engineers and technicians for the concerts included: Annalise Watson, Craig Baker, Amir Watfa, Frankie Dickinson, Daniel Sutton, Georgia Busser and Alex Baines.
Music Performance tutor Chris Donnelly said: “The students and staff who came along to watch really seemed to enjoy the range of pieces chosen and the Solo Showcases gave the music students a chance to practise performing and interacting with the audience.”
