What's Involved

This qualification is delivered at our Quarles Campus in Harold Hill. It is fully expected that all learners that begin their learning at this campus will complete their learning at this campus, regardless of the duration of the programme.

You will focus on analytical techniques, theoretical modelling and practical investigation to solving vocational and work-based problems. The qualification provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the modern engineering industry. An HNC is intended for self-motivated individuals looking to enhance their promotional prospects or to further their education. It is delivered in part-time or full-time study over the duration of two years (*full-time students are given the option to top up to a HND). This course is validated through Pearson Edexcel. All HNCs and Foundation Degrees will focus on core engineering concepts including: Project management, Applied mathematics, Engineering science and Engineering principles. A high focus of the delivery is on employer engagement and the use of IT within the industry. All students are required to complete an engineering project in their final year. Additional pathway options include: Materials engineering, Advanced computer-aided design techniques, Health, safety and risk assessment in engineering.

Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points* / 120 UCAS points* from a relevant Level 3 qualification; GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above or equivalent Level 2 qualifications. Where will it take me?

A top-up option is available to progress from an HNC to a Foundation Degree in one year part-time study.

Course Assessment Method

Assessment will be by coursework, assignments, practical investigations, phase tests and end of unit examinations. Core topics are compulsory such as: Analytical methods, Project design, Implementation and evaluation, Mechanical principles. Individual pathways can be discussed to make up your study programme.
