What's Involved

If you enjoy working with young children, then this introductory qualification begins to look at several aspects of caring for children including play and safety and it also begins to explore what it is like to work in the childcare sector.

Units include:

  • Children's health,
  • Safety,
  • Play,
  • Rights and responsibilities,
  • Children's routines,
  • Healthy living.

Entry Requirements

English Language GCSE grade 2 (F), plus 3 GCSEs at grade 1 (G), one of which should be maths.

Where will it take me?

This is an introductory course which may lead to level 1 and eventually level 2 courses in either Childcare or Health and Social Care which could lead to employment in nurseries, play groups or the care sector.

Course Assessment Method

Each of the subject areas will be assessed using a variety of written and practical tasks which are all put together in a portfolio of evidence.

All subjects are compulsory and in addition all students will study Functional Skills or GCSE in English and maths if required.
