What's Involved

Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. You must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. You will also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

The duration of this Apprenticeship is generally 18-24 months and you will be required to attend college 1 day a week.

This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A*- C including: • GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in Maths Level 2 • GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in English Level 2 • Having already completed a L2 Hairdressing qualification

It is advantageous to have had previous experience of working within the barbering or hairdressing industry.

Working in a job role such as Stylist or Hairdresser for a minimum of 30hours per week.

What qualifications will I achieve? By the end of your apprenticeship you will have achieved:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
  • Functional Skill in Maths Level 2 (if required)
  • Functional Skill in English Level 2 (if required)
  • Employee Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

Upon successful completion of this apprenticeship you can progress into employment as a hairdresser or stylist or other job roles in the hairdressing related industries.

At the end of your apprenticeship, the college will work with you and your employer to help you go on to the next level of raining or gain full-time employment, either with your current employer or another employer the college has access to. The skills, knowledge and qualification you will gain from your apprenticeship means that Havering College can help you get to the level employers are looking for.

Course Assessment Method

You will complete online computer based exams at the end of each unit including a range of methods such as; Direct observation of tasks or activities, examination of work products produced by learners (e.g. diary notes, site notes, completed reports), examination of witness testimonies from people, other than the assessor, who are prepared to provide statements detailing specific details of learners’ performance, review of records of ‘question and answer’ sessions covering specific aspects of the knowledge and understanding and Professional discussion. All of these assessment methods will build your portfolio of evidence.
