What's Involved

Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in hairdressing or barbering for some time or have completed a Level 2 qualification previously. You may want to develop your hairdressing skills in a more specialised area or you might want to learn a particular technique.

Units you may study include:

  • Monitor and maintain Health and safety practice;
  • Client consultation for hair services;
  • Shampoo and consultation for hair and scalp;
  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon;
  • Cut women’s hair to create a variety of looks;
  • Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques;
  • Colour hair to create a variety of looks;
  • Scalp massage service;
  • Make and style a hair addition;
  • Enterprise activities.

You will be enrolled on a Study Programme which will include mandatory attendance on your vocational course and English and Maths if required following assessment, as well as engagement in work experience and enterprise activities throughout the duration of the course.

Entry Requirements

You'll have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification in a relevant subject and hold three GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including English. Additionally, you'll need GCSE Maths at Grade 3 (D) or above.

As well as providing us with a positive reference from your former Level 2 tutor you'll undertake English and Maths assessments to determine your ongoing skill levels.

Where will it take me?

These qualifications give you the skills to forge a career in hairdressing or barbering or to advance in your career by gaining new skills.

Following on from successful completion of this course you can progress onto either an NVQ or VRQ at Level 3 in Barbering or alternatively you may choose to consider a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy.

Course Assessment Method

Assessment is continuous throughout the academic year and you'll complete treatments on peers and clients alike. After each assessment you will be given feedback from your tutor to give you the knowledge required to make any improvement ready for summative assessments. When you are ready for final assessment you will be assessed in a practical environment as you complete the practical treatments on salon clients.

All units require you to complete and pass an online assessment relating to the essential knowledge and understanding for the theory aspect of the unit. You will be given the detailed information required to support you with research and fact finding in preparation for revision for each of these online assessment.
