What's Involved

The aim of this course is to develop beauty therapy knowledge, understanding and skills so that you can progress to work effectively as a competent junior therapist. You will study mandatory and optional units which contain all the required elements and will give you the flexibility to focus on developing those skills in the areas in which you are most interested.

In the mandatory units you will study:

  • Facial skincare
  • Waxing
  • Eyelash and eyebrow treatments
  • Manicures and pedicures
  • Client care
  • Health and safety

In the optional units you can select from a range of skills, including: Creative skill of nail art, reception duties or displaying stock to promote sales.

Entry Requirements

You will have completed a Level 1 qualification in Beauty Therapy or a relevant subject or you'll have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 3 (D) plus two other GCSEs Grade 3 (D) in any other subject.

You'll also sit a positive interview and undertake assessments to determine your ongoing English and Maths skill levels.

Where will it take me?

Successful students can progress to career opportunities in a variety of contexts as a junior beauty therapist, including working in commercial beauty salons, working in a retail concession in a department store or working independently as a self-employed therapist, a mobile therapist or a home-based therapist. Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare students for employment, you may choose to develop your skills further by undertaking higher qualifications in beauty therapy and these could include the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy, the Level 3 Diploma in Make-Up Artistry or the Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up.
