What's Involved

The qualification, specifically for the 16+ age group, builds on existing knowledge and understanding of beauty therapy gained at Level 2, enabling students to expand the scope of their technical skills. Students will also learn new treatments and will study mandatory units such as health and safety, client care and communication, electrical face and body treatments, and body massage at an advanced level. Students have the opportunity to also choose some optional units to enhance their range of practical skills.

Optional units can include:

  • Applying individual semi-permanent eyelash extensions
  • Intimate waxing for male and female clients
  • Micro-dermabrasion skin treatments
  • Self-tanning
  • Electrical epilation
  • Stone therapy
  • Massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
  • Indian head massage

In order to be awarded the qualification, students must pass the five mandatory units and must also gain a minimum of eight credits from units in the optional group.

Entry Requirements

You'll have successfully completed a Level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy or a relevant subject or hold three GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including English. Additionally, you'll need GCSE Maths at Grade 3 (D) or above.

As well as providing us with a positive reference from your former Level 2 tutor you'll undertake English and Maths assessments to determine your ongoing skill levels.

Where will it take me?

Successful students can progress to a career as a beauty therapist where opportunities exist in a variety of contexts, such as at beauty salons, day spas, hotel resorts in the UK or abroad, HM Prison Service, cruise liners, hospitals, care homes, working in a retail concession in a department store or working independently as a self-employed therapist, mobile therapist or a home-based therapist. There are also opportunities for a career in product manufacturing and training, as well as going on to further study at Level 4, which can lead to careers in permanent make-up, aesthetic body treatments, IPL and laser treatments.
