What's Involved

If you have gained some qualifications at Entry Level you may wish to gain further recognition with this Level 1 Diploma, which aims to stimulate and recognise achievement.

If you already have some GCSEs at grades 3 - 1 (D - G) and wish to make a fresh start on a course that offers a different learning and assessment style, why not consider this course.

Level 1 Health and Social Care has been designed to provide a broad educational basis for further training, further education or for moving into appropriate employment within the health and social care sectors.

Entry Requirements

To apply for a place on the course you will need:

  • GCSE English Language Grade 3 (D) or above;
  • GCSE Maths Grade 3 (D) or above;
  • 2 other GCSEs at 9 - 2 (A - E);
  • a good reference;
  • You are required to attend an interview and sit an entry test;
  • You will also be required to complete a DBS Criminal Record Check.

Where will it take me?

You may be able to progress onto the Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma if you meet the additional entry requirements. Further training will be required to make you employment-ready.

You will have your support needs assessed.

You will study a combination of compulsory and optional units, as listed:

  • Unit 1: Starting work in Health and Social Care;
  • Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care;
  • Unit 3: Developing skills in Health and Social Care;
  • Unit 4: Personal effectiveness;
  • Unit 5: Social responsibility at work;
  • Unit 6: Financial management;
  • Unit 7: Looking after children;
  • Unit 8: Images of people;
  • Unit 9: Health and the environment;
  • Unit 10: Exploring local services.
