What's Involved

Your employer's business could include the installation, service, maintenance and repair of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment, including showers, baths and sinks; drainage pipes, plastic and copper water pipes and guttering; heating systems fuelled by gas, solar thermal, heat pumps, oil and coal.

You can expect to study the following topics:

  • Health and Safety
  • Principles
  • Processes
  • Hot and cold water
  • Central heating
  • Sanitation
  • Environmental awareness
  • Customer Relations
  • Rainwater Systems

You will study units and will build a portfolio of tasks completed. You will then be assessed to test your knowledge and practical skills in the form of online multiple-choice examinations and practical tasks relating to real-life work situations.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade 4/C in maths and English are required or another Level 2 qualification by agreement at interview.
You will also need to provide a satisfactory reference and undertake a Skillsbuilder assessment.

Where will it take me?

Former students have progressed to learning and assessment programmes that lead to relevant Level 3 qualifications and/or an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Domestic Plumbing and Heating.

Course Assessment Method

To achieve your Level 2 NVQ you will be assessed in the workplace on specific units covering the full spectrum of work involved in domestic/industrial plumbing.
