This qualification is foryou if you want to learn the basic skills and knowledge involved in the plumbing industry.

It gives you the opportunity to pick up some core skills and knowledge and gives you the opportunity to progress onto our Level 2 Plumbing qualifications.

Key areas of study are:

• Health and Safety in building service engineering • Electrical principles and processes for building service engineering • Scientific principles for domestic, industrial and commercial plumbing • Common plumbing operations • Basic plumbing operations

These occupation frameworks are designed to provide new entrants and those seeking progression in their career with the opportunity to develop competencies that are needed to carry out job roles and responsibilities associated with the installation, maintenance, commissioning and servicing of domestic plumbing and heating systems.

Your employer's business could include the installation, service, maintenance and repair of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment, including:

• Showers; Baths; Sinks • Drainage Pipes, Plastic and Copper Water Pipes and Guttering • Heating Systems fuelled by Gas; Solar Thermal; Heat Pumps; Oil and Coal

These products could be installed in domestic, industrial and commercial premises where not only are the technical skills needed but also the skills of customer service and communication.

Successful completion of the Intermediate Level framework equips an apprentice with the ability to select and use relevant knowledge, ideas, skills and procedures to complete well defined tasks and address straightforward problems. They include taking responsibility for completing tasks and procedures, and exercising autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance. Successful candidates then have the option to further develop their skills, knowledge and competence by progressing onto the Advanced Level framework.

The duration of this apprenticeship is generally 24 months. You will be required to attend college 1 day per week.

This is a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

This course is suitable for you if you have an interest in plumbing work and wish to work towards becoming a qualified plumber or are already employed in the industry.

This course can be suitable for you if you are a mature student wishing to undertake a career change.

The course provides you with the required practical and theoretical tuition. There are a number of practical tasks that you will need to carry out during the year. This is combined with a high level of underpinning knowledge in workshop/site safety and plumbing technology. It is approximately 50/50 theory/practical.

This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

This course is suitable if you wish to continue your plumbing training to the recognised industry standard qualification.

The course provides you with the required practical and theoretical tuition. There are a number of practical tasks that you will need to carry out during the year. This is combined with a high level of underpinning knowledge in workshop/site safety and plumbing technology. It is approximately 50/50 theory/practical.
