What's Involved

This is a one-year course and the prime purpose of the qualification is to ensure that upon successful completion, you are a proficient and competent carpenter or joiner. There are two pathways to select from - either Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.

The Level 3 Site Carpentry Diploma pathway allows you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry.

It covers the following skills:

  • Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
  • Carry out second fixing operations
  • Carry out first fix roofing and stairs
  • Carry out second fixing double doors and mouldings
  • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery

The Level 3 Bench Joinery Diploma pathway allows you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Bench Joinery.

It covers the following skills:

  • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
  • Manufacture shaped doors and frames
  • Manufacture stairs with turns

Entry Requirements

Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery or a related subject.

Where will it take me?

Following successful completion of this course you may wish to seek employment as a carpenter and/or joiner. This qualification will also enable progression to the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations and the NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management. After gaining work experience in your chosen occupational area there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas or students can enrol onto the Level 3 or HNC/HND Construction and the Built Environment (management course) qualification, subject to successful interview.

Course Assessment Method

All online examination based units are externally assessed whilst practical units are internally assessed. You will build up a portfolio of evidence which will be internally assessed and verified by the centre and then externally verified by City & Guilds.
