What's Involved

The Surveying Technician Apprenticeship is designed as an entry level position into surveying and will typically take 2 years to complete. During this apprenticeship you will Learn: • the English legal system, law of contract and law of tort • key mathematical principles in data collection • economics • health and safety • sustainability • construction technology • other skills relating to 2 of the following specialisms: valuation and appraisal, building pathology, property and planning law, procurement and contracts, costing and cost planning of construction works. The duration of this apprenticeship is generally 24 months and you will be required to attend college one day per week.

This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A*- C including: • GCSE Maths Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in Maths Level 2 • GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or Functional Skill in English Level 2

A level 2 apprenticeship or qualification in a construction or property related discipline

Working in a role as Surveying Technician Building Surveying Technicians/ Commercial Property Surveying Technicians/ Residential Property Surveying Technicians/ Land Surveying Technicians (including rural, minerals and waste management and planning and development)/ Valuation Surveying Technicians/ Consultant (Professional) Quantity Surveying Technicians/ Consultant (Professional) Project Management Technicians for a minimum of 30hours per week.

Where will it take me?

This apprenticeship will provide the necessary knowledge skills and behaviours to become associate members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

At the end of your apprenticeship, the college will work with you and your employer to help you go on to the next level of training or gain full-time employment, either with your current employer or another employer the college has access to. The skills, knowledge and qualification you will gain from your apprenticeship means that Havering College can help you get to the level employers are looking for.

Course Assessment Method

On programme assessment We strongly recommend that on programme assessment is used to monitor progress in the acquisition of knowledge, skills and experience and that this should include two elements: • A level 3 diploma in Surveying • The presentation of a portfolio of evidence (which will not form part of the diploma) This will be assessed by assessors who are either qualified NVQ assessors or who are active and trained assessors for the RICS Associate assessment.

The End Point Assessment (EPA) has four components – all will need to be passed in order to be awarded the apprenticeship. This EPA is the RICS Associate assessment

  • A 3000 word summary of experience
  • A 2500 word case study
  • CPD - A record of a minimum of 48 hours of continuing professional development undertaken during the last 12 months
  • An ethics test
