HAROLD HILL hairdresser Sharon Morrad is a girl who certainly knows how to cope with women's locks.

For Sharon, of Dulvertonroad, Harold Hill, came third in a hairdressing competition at Havering Technical College last week.

The contest, organised by the Redbridge and District Branch of the National Hairdressers' Federation, Havering Technical College and Havering Education Committee, was arranged to stimulate interest in the trade.

The competitors were asked to creat a day style without ornamentation or false hair pieces.

There were 47 competitors, all aged between 15 and 17,and all were either students at the College's hairdressing department or apprentices.

"We stage the competition every year to encourage the young people to better themselves and to create new ideas," said Mr. Terry Helman, branch secretary of the Federation.

The winner of the Redbridge Trophy was Susan Shiers, from Leigh-on-Sea ; second was Steven Plapper of Southend, and fourth Jacqueline Nash of Basildon.
