Pupil Gets Coveted Award 2
For the second year in succession a student at Havering College has scooped one of the most coveted awards in the world of commerce – the R.S.A. bronze medal for typewriting.

Janet Gibbons was awarded her medal at a special prize giving at the college.

Guest speaker Mr. Sprakes, congratulated the college on their high standard of work and examination results for the year.

Among the many guest present were representatives from many local businesses.


Secretarial and business studies courses. Full-time, private secretary, Julia Merritt; senior secretarial course. Frances Dixon: secretarial course, Rosaleen Shanaha.

Ordinary National Diploma course 1st year: Peter McCreanor; ordinary National Diploma course 2nd year, Carmel O’Sullivan; pre-professional commerce course, Hilary Paton.

Part-time courses, (secretarial) married women 1st year, Mrs. E. Faires; married women 2nd year, Mrs. Brenda Lucas; grammar school 6th form linked courses, 1st, Lynn Burr; grammar school linked courses 2nd, Ann whisk in.

Day release course, clerk typist course, jean smith; shorthand typist Christine Nichol, certificate in office studies 1st year. John Summerfield; certificate in office studies 2nd year, Raymond Dennis.

Local government course. Clerical division Kenneth Crooks; Ordinary Certificate in business studies. Reginald Stewart in business studies Paul Harwood.

Evening courses. Shorthand, Kathleen Warne; typewriting, Mrs. Bryne. Institute of Bankers. Part one, john freeman.
