Its Ok Just Mayor Bills Little Joke 2Ahem… There seems to be a mathematical miscalculation somewhere, or is Havering Mayor Cllr. Bill Smith indulging in a gentle spot of leg-pulling?

Actually, it IS a mayoral joke. On the receiving end, some of the borough’s 300 newly-appointed teachers. The occasion – an informal welcome at Havering Technical College last week.

This sit he fourth year that new teaching staffs in Havering have been officially welcomed into the borough and this year’s batch included 106 newly-qualified teachers. Speeches of welcome were made by the mayor, chairman of the Education Committee Cllr. Norman Kemble, chief education officer Mr David Wilcockson, and the principal of Havering Technical College Mr. Frederick Janes. The new arrivals, all of them have taken up their posts in the district since last Christmas, were invited by Mr. Janes to look over the college after a buffet supper.
