Hair do Guinea Pigs Hard to FindThree years after hairdressing course started at Hornchurch College of further education there is still one major obstacle-a shortage of models.

The problem has not yet been solved. Mr. Arthur Ebdon, college principal, said at the hairdressing courses prizegiving on Monday.

He told guest and students; “for the first year we had no hairdressing salon. The practical side of the course was most difficult, until we solved this by having our own salon.

“After solving that we found there was a shortage of models which we still have not overcome.”

Mr.Ebdon said they had a guiding principle not to go into competition with employers.

Presenting prizes and certificates to the part-time, fall-time and evening students was Mr. David Adamson, president of the national hairdressers’ federation.

Stressing the need for the hairdressers of today to have a good theoretical as well as practical training, he said:

“The time has gone when one could simply be a craftsman and time will come when better training for hairdressers will become obligatory”

Mr.Adamson urged the young hairdressers to take every opportunity they were offered.

Chairman at the prize-giving was matron of Harold wood hospital, Miss D.E. Phillips, who is member of the college board of governors and the college hairdressing advisory committee.
