Principal Praised 2

The man whose drive and enterprises had such a remarkable effect in the development of the Hornchurch College of Further Education, Mr. Arther Edbon, is leaving the borough in September to take up a new job.

Devon-born Mr.Ebdon is to take up a new appointment as principal of the South Devon Technical College, Torquay.


He has been principal at the Ardleigh Green College since it opened in 1958.

Mr. and Mrs. Ebdon were presented with a dinner service at a ceremony on Thursday night by chairman of the governors, Cllr. Arthur Booton.

“One of his main characteristics was his readiness to experiment, his drive and enterprise which had such a remarkable effect on the development of the Hornchurch College,” Cllr. Booton said.

Havering’s chief education officer, Mr. David Willcockson paid tribute to Mr. Ebdon. He said that his initiative in the amazing development of the Hornchurch College was something to be highly commended.

And council education committee chairman, Cllr. Norman Richards added that Mr. Ebdon’s drive and fervour would be sadly missed after September.
