Young nurses at St. George's Hospital, Hornchurch, were praised last week for the wonderful work they do by Mr. A. V. Ebdon, Principal of Hornchurch College of Further Education.
Mr. Ebdon was presenting nurses with certificates and prizes.
He said his own college holds a nurse's course and added: "I hope more and more local girls from secondary schools will come forward to be nurses at hospitals like St. George's."
Also present at the prize-giving were Ald. Mrs. Lillian Irons, chairman of the Hospital House Committee, the Mayor and Mayoress of Havering, Cllr. and Mrs. Sydney Legg, and matrons of two neighbouring hospitals, Rush Green and Victoria.
Prizes were awarded to Mary Herbert, best practical ;nurse; Cicily Wills and Constance Phillip, joint best theoretical nurse; Yvonne Joseph, nurse making best all round progress; Jem Moriah Rogers, courtesy and kindness to patients and visitors; Lottice Ernesta Neblett, attention to detail, tidiness in work general appearance.
Certificates and badges went to Esther Haynes, Carmen Edwards. Meredith Clarke, Yvonne Howard, Merganthy Newton, Daphne Murray, Pamela Wilson, Norma McKenzie, Merle Nestor.
A certificate was awarded to Phyllis Harris.
