Former College 14-16 Student of the Year, Apple-Jane Hayward, has been selected as the official Mayor’s Cadet to accompany the Mayor of Brentwood on civic engagements.

Apple-Jane was awarded Student of the Year when she studied Catering at Quarles campus last year.

Now the 16-year-old is at our Sixth Form site in Wingletye Lane studying the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport. She is the first ever Mayor’s Cadet to be selected.

As part of her role she attends many events with the Mayor of Brentwood Councillor Keith Parker, meeting and greeting people from local charities and organisations.

An avid water-sports enthusiast, Apple-Jane has been a member of the Brentwood Sea Cadets for four years, is a volunteer Explorer Scout and a Royal Yachting Association Stage 4 Advanced Sailor. She is also TS St. Vincent's Leading Sea Cadet and is a British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor.

Along with her brother Miles, who is studying Level 2 BTEC Engineering at Quarles campus and is also a Brentwood Sea Cadet, Apple-Jane was awarded the prestigious Master Coxswain earlier this year. This is the highest award in the Sea Cadets for waterborne activities and is rarely achieved. Miles at 14, was the youngest Sea Cadet to ever be presented with this award.

The Brentwood Sea Cadets meet twice a week at the Unit, TS St. Vincent, in King Edward Road, near Brentwood Rail Station, at 7.15pm.
