You may recall that Abby Foley, an ex-fashion student at the College, was selected as a finalist in Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD)’s Fashion Futures project this year.
As a finalist, Abby attended workshops hosted by FAD during the summer, where she produced a metallic dress that was showcased by a model at London Fashion Week last Monday evening (above right). She is amongst the youngest designers to ever showcase at the prestigious catwalk event.
FAD’s core aim is to help young people make it in the fashion industry. Their programmes equip them with the skills, connections and confidence they need to get their foot firmly in the door, and opportunities such as this are unrivalled.
Whilst Abby wasn’t selected as a winner, her time with FAD allowed her to strengthen her skills and develop as a designer. Speaking of the experience, she said:
I feel a bit more out there – I wasn’t as creative before. I was sticking to normal things whereas now I feel I can be more outrageous and creative. FAD is a really good platform that everyone should apply to and try get on. It’s been really helpful.
We would like to congratulate Abby for making it this far and wish her all the best for her future studies at De Montfort University where she will be reading fashion design.
