Two of our carpentry and joinery students recently carried out a work experience placement at Falkus Joinery, one of London’s leading joiners with 60 years of experience behind them.
Joe Hill and Stanley Kappes worked at Falkus’ swanky Shoreditch premises, which is home to a central workshop and state of the art machinery.
Over the course of a few weeks, Joe and Stanley were set to work on one of Falkus’ latest projects; producing a mace stand for the Lord Mayor of Havering. They saw the entire process through from initial design on paper, to computer aided design, and then finally creating the physical product.
They were able to practice what they had learnt in the classroom in a real working environment, and Stanley highlighted the value of this:
Work experience is really important because it makes the theories and stuff you learn in the classroom come to reality. It helps you understand what the market you’re going into is like.
Falkus regularly accept work experience students and encourage them to apply. Speaking of Joe and Stanley’s time there, Commercial Manager Will Burn said:
We wanted them to take their experience from college and make something using our tools and techniques.
We do not doubt that Joe and Stanley took a lot from their time at Falkus and we congratulate them on their involvement in such a prestigious project.
