We recently hosted the first of two annual employer days for our foundation learning students.
At the employer days, we welcome guest speakers from various companies who talk to the students about what the company does and what they would expect from their employees.
The floor is open to the students to ask any questions and they are given the fantastic opportunity to network with the company representatives. In doing so, they strengthen their confidence, self-esteem and communication, which can be applied to their future.
Michelle Letch, Foundation Skills Programme Manager, commented on how beneficial these employer days are:
Our aim is to prepare our foundation learning students for everyday life. We find that, as they learn new skills and explore new interests, they grow in independence and confidence, and that is exactly what these employer days achieve.
Companies that were present included The Brentwood Centre, Time FM Radio, Saint Francis Hospice and local police officers – a diverse group of companies that really emphasises the diverse opportunities open to our students.
A big thank you to all of the employers who attended our employer day and spoke to our students about the importance of work experience!
