havering college catering students saint francis hospice cheque

Our catering students were proud to present Saint Francis Hospice with a cheque on Friday 16th March as a result of their recent fundraising efforts.

Over the Christmas period, the students sold raffle tickets to customers who booked a festive meal at the Jubilee Restaurant at our Quarles Campus, raising an impressive total of £434.00 to donate to the cause.

Tony Pecoraro, Lecturer of Hospitality and Catering, explained his choice to support Saint Francis Hospice in particular:

It is such a worthwhile charity and many of our customers have a connection with it. I have done fundraising events for the hospice in the past as I know they have to raise a lot of money.

Saint Francis Hospice is an independent charity serving the Essex borough, providing free of charge care and support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Each year they are tasked with raising more than £7,000,000 and without donations such as ours, they would not be able to provide the honourable service they do.

Sarah Williamson, Head of Fundraising at the Hospice, commended the efforts from our students. She said:

This was a superb effort from Tony and the catering students at Havering College and we are grateful to all the customers who supported the raffle. Without the support of our community and organisations like this, we would not be able to provide our extensive end of life care services to people when they need them the most.
