Here at Havering College, we greatly encourage all learners and staff to be creative, resourceful and innovative.
The MAD (Make a Difference) Digital Challenge, launching on Monday 19th March, is designed to encourage an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and will require students to work cooperatively to harness technology and develop ideas in a professional capacity.
Students are invited to propose an idea for how the college can use technology to improve the teaching, learning and assessment experience, or the student experience as a whole. You do not need to be a programmer or a designer to win; all that is needed is a strong idea and the enthusiasm and commitment to see it through from paper to reality.
You can submit your ideas by yourself or as a team. All you have to do is film a short presentation of no more than two minutes about your idea, which can be done on your mobile, and submit a short write-up of your idea by completing the form below.
The deadline for entries is Friday 20th April at 5pm. Students will then be asked to vote for their favourite idea and a designated panel will select five finalists to proceed to the next stage, a Dragon’s Den style pitch on Friday 25th May, for which they will receive mentor support. You will need to receive a minimum of 25 votes from registered students to be considered a finalist.
College Vice Principal Asfa Sohail expressed her excitement about launching the challenge. Addressing our students, she said:
The MAD Digital Challenge will enable you to excel in developing entrepreneurial and digital skills. In addition to developing these skills and winning prizes, successful candidates will be mentored by employers. I encourage you all to take part in this challenge and help us shape the future of Havering College by taking digital technologies to the next level.
If you fancy your chances at being the next Alan Sugar, be sure to get involved. Don’t forget the deadline for entries is Friday 20th April at 5pm. Good luck!
