Winner of the 2017 Jack Petchey Achievement Award Eleanor Lockhart was presented with her certificate by Student Development and Learner Voice Officer Garrett Hill last week.
Eleanor Lockhart volunteered herself early in the academic year for a work experience placement in London with a charity called Children England, even though she had never travelled to London on her own before. Eleanor attended on time, every day, and participated in a whole week of work and events. At one event the employer asked Eleanor to stand up and speak publicly (totally on the spot) and although she had never done this before, she did it! Eleanor overcame nerves and gained a glowing reference from the employer. As a result of this good impression the employer has offered further placements and also referred the College to another charity based in the Guildhall in the City of London, who want to support us with work experience placements.
Eleanor was a student with us last academic year and we have seen her grow in confidence from when she first came to the College. This experience shows maturity on Eleanor’s behalf with the way that she put herself out there to take on the challenge and overcome some of her fears.
