Fashion student Ruqiya Ahmed has claimed a spot on the acclaimed Fashion Futures course alongside 60 other young people with a passion for fashion from Greater London and the surrounding areas.
Fashion Futures 2017 launched at the V&A on Saturday 21st January. Launch day is followed by 10 weeks of industry led, fashion workshops on Saturday mornings. Participants receive expert tuition from industry volunteers to learn about the complete design process – from initial research and garment design to technical drawing, pattern cutting and constructing a finished toile. A toile is an early version of a finished garment made up in cheap material so that the design can be tested and perfected. The young designers then present their finished toiles and portfolios to a panel of industry experts, who select the Fashion Futures finalists.
The finalists will be invited to progress to the Fashion Futures summer school and showcase their work on the London Fashion Week runway in September 2017. The event is attended by over 300 guests, including key figures in industry and press.
We will keep you posted on Ruqiya’s story as the course progresses. Good luck Ruqiya!
