The STEM Foundation's Assured Accreditation is the only standard that provides independent, industry-backed validation of the quality of an institution’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics provision. To achieve the STEM Assured status, Havering College was assessed on our capability to design and deliver STEM courses that keep pace with emerging technology and the evolving needs of employers. As a measure of a College’s success, accreditation is crucial.
The Vice Principal of Havering College, Asfa Sohail commented:
"We are absolutely delighted to have received the STEM Assured validation for our work both across the College and in partnership with the STEM industry sectors. We look forward to building further, following achieving this top level award."
The STEM Foundation's Validation Panel reviewed the College’s self-assessment, along with feedback from both staff and students, and then carried out their own assessment, considering the College's strategy and planning, innovations, and design and delivery.
The STEM Foundation were very impressed with the focus on STEM’s significance and its importance within the College as a whole. They recognised the success with the rail industry where employment was secured by 86% of students. They also made some positive recommendations, all of which the College are now implementing.
They felt the College was 'a forward-thinking institution that has embraced the ethos of STEM innovation in all its activities'. They acknowledged the College haves 'a clear capability to stimulate and deliver innovative STEM provision across its value chain to enable student development, employability and support business growth acceleration in the region'.
Guided by the Benchmarking Criteria set out by the UK Innovation Council, the STEM Assured Accreditation Panel agreed that the self-assessment, underpinned by the site visit and supporting evidence, demonstrated that Havering College is a forward-thinking institution that has embraced the ethos of STEM innovation in all its activities. Therefore, the Council recommended the conferment of the STEM Assured Standard on Havering College from 17th May 2016.
This is a huge accolade which acknowledges the excellent work done by the College’s innovative and committed staff and one for which we are all be immensely proud.
