katie white beauty 16.7.15

Havering College Beauty Therapy student has beat off fierce competition to secure a place in the UK WorldSkills finals.

Katie White, 18, from Romford, won the South of England regional heats held in Broadstairs Kent, by outshining 25 fierce competitors and has secured a place to represent the region and the College in the UK WorldSkills national finals to be held on 18-21st November at the SkillsShow, NEC Birmingham.

Katie, who has been at Havering College for the last year studying beauty therapy level 2, was selected from 38 students to compete in the Hands and Face category for her skills in waxing, make-up and nails.

Katie, whose passion is to study media make-up said:

"I was amazed and to win, especially from amongst such talented competition. It was such an amazing experience and the finals will be awesome".

"Winning the competition has already opened doors for me and I am starting my first job in the industry as an Apprentice Beauty Therapist in the Retreat Graduate Salon at Havering College, whilst completing my level 3. I'm going to learn everything I can and make the most of the opportunities that this brings."

Curriculum Manager Paula Hole said:

"As Katie's personal tutor I cannot tell you how proud of her I am of her coming first in the regional competition, and getting through to the national finals is such a huge achievement. Katie is an excellent student who always gives her best in everything she does. She has the makings of an excellent beauty therapist and this accolade will certainly help her in the future".
