THE legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games continues to grow from strength to strength at Havering College.

Havering College students have embraced the ongoing spirit of the Games by participating in the Festival of Sport 2014 from October 17th-24th.

The Festival is an annual inter-college competition across the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest.

It aims to encourage active participation in sport, regardless of disabilities.

Havering College's MLD Basketball team – made up of students with Moderate Learning Difficulties – took Gold and the MLD Football team reached the semi-finals before going out on penalties. There was success for Jessie Sally who achieved Silver in the men's 800 metres while Giosue Bonsu took Silver in the Shot Putt.

Havering's Iron Man team won a Bronze medal with the college finishing joint 4th with Newham College across all the events.

Other sports Havering College competed in included Badminton, Touch Rugby, Volleyball and Women's Football.

Havering College sport maker Faye Lambert said: "We are both proud and pleased with the students who took part. Considering we were in some cases up against professional athletes, we held our own and put in overall an outstanding effort. It was fantastic to have students from a range of courses taking part."
