CONSTRUCTION students at Havering College have joined in paying tribute to a staff member who is to receive recognition from Havering's Borough Police Commander in his annual awards.
Sarah Budd - a student development worker at the college's Rainham Campus Construction Centre - has received a letter from Chief Supt Jason Gwillim confirming her commendation.
The prestigious event recognises officers, police staff and members of the public for their acts of professionalism, teamwork, dedication to duty, bravery and courage.
Gidea Park resident Sarah, has been commended for her work in supporting a student and their family.
In his letter Chieftain Supt Gwillim said the student "had turned his life around" and his family "were progressing well thanks to the support of police and partner agencies".
He wrote: "I commend you for your support, there is no doubt that without your assistance the student and his family may not have progressed as much as they have today.
"I therefore have the pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to receive a Borough Commanders Commendation. Congratulations on receiving this award."
Sarah will receive her award at the Havering Borough Commander's Commendation Ceremony on a date to be announced.
She said: "It is great to get some recognition from the Havering Borough Commander for the support and intervention work I do here with students. It is really rewarding to be a part of the growth and development of students who have become disengaged with education in the past. Havering College Rainham Construction Campus is an innovative and inclusive college and I am proud to be part of the excellent team here."
Havering College Principal Maria Thompson said: "We have an excellent reputation in supporting students and are delighted that Sarah is to receive this prestigious award. She is an inspiration to other staff and also our students."
