Havering College of Further and Higher Education has been shortlisted for a prestigious UK wide further education award.
The college in Hornchurch, Greater London, has been nominated alongside Bridgend College, City of Bristol College, Edinburgh College and The Manchester College for the University Higher Education Access Widening Participation Award in the Times Education Supplement (TES) UK Further Education Awards.
The winners will be announced at a special ceremony to be held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Westminster on February 28th.
The submission from Havering College relates to its Teacher Education provision serving both further education and higher education. The programme has been developed in line with the College's mission to serve the community to not only attract those less likely to start a career in education but to also equip them with the skills, the tools and the ambition to break through barriers to advance both academically and professionally.
Havering College Principal Maria Thompson said: "We are very proud to be shortlisted for the University Higher Education Access Award Widening Participation Award category in the prestigious TES FE Awards 2014. It is a tribute to the hard work of the college's teacher training team who work closely with learners and employers to develop reflective and confident practitioners for the teaching profession."
