Havering College

CATERING students at Havering College are learning how the fruits of their labours are helping to save lives.

Sales of food gift products to customers at the college's Jubilee Restaurant have raised £572 for charity.

Havering College curriculum manager for Hospitality and Catering Nick Gunyon invited breast cancer specialist Mr Ashraf Patel to an evening of fine dining at the open to the public restaurant on the Quarles Campus site in Tring Gardens, Harold Hill.

The popular restaurant is run by the college's Catering and Hospitality students and allows them to hone their skills in a realistic working environment.

Mr Patel is from the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow and runs a charity which funds specialist equipment, new innovative initiatives and research into breast cancer.

He told students: "Some patients come to a stage when there is no more treatment available apart from new drugs under trial and the money you have raised will support this research."
