Havering College student Sarah Davis has been named Liberty Fashion Designer of the Year... and bagged an apprenticeship.

The 18-year-old was up against budding designers from across Essex and East London for the 2013 competition which culminated in a catwalk show at the Liberty Shopping Centre in Romford.

Participants from more than 170 schools, colleges and universities were given the brief to make a key garment for spring/summer 2014.

Sarah, who took her inspiration from the Olympics, received a trophy and an 18-month apprenticeship with Fashion Capital - an online support network for the fashion industry.

Her classmate Chantelle Marie Hay, 18, won the Marks & Spencer apprenticeship category.

Havering College curriculum manager for Fashion Marie Loney said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Sarah and Chantelle and we are delighted with the apprenticeship offers from the employers.
