What's Involved

The BTEC National Diploma in Business is a 1 year course for anyone interested in a career in business or wishing to progress to a higher level of study at University.

Students will initially work towards 18 units of study for Diploma Level. Three of the four compulsory units will be studied during the first term, with tutors assessing students competency at the end of the first term.

The students may visit outside organisations to see Business concepts and skills in place. Day trips in this country and abroad also take place including a residential. All trips are compulsory and require a fee.

Entry Requirements

You will require six GCSEs at Grades 9-4 (A-C) including English and Maths and a reference from your previous school or college along with any other certificates you may hold.

Appplicants who have previously completed Business Level 2 Diploma are able to progress onto this Level 3 Diploma following a positive interview with course staff.

Where will it take me?

Universities recognise the value of the qualification, the business skills and independent nature it encourages. You may use the qualification to gain entry to University to study Business related Degrees and HND qualifications as the qualification attracts UCAS points for University Entrance.

Course Assessment Method

All assessment is by internal assessment. There are no external exams. Assignments are based on realistic workplace situations and aimed at developing business skills and knowledge. Significant use of IT, internet research and PowerPoint presentations are a feature of the qualification. Coursework is moderated by Internal and Exernal Verifiers. Your ability, attendance and punctuality is monitored closely during the first term when working on the compulsory units.

There are four compulsory units:

Unit 1: Exploring Business Activity; Unit 2: Investigating Business Resources; Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing; Unit 4: Effective People, communication and information.
