What's Involved

The objectives of this framework are to:

  1. contribute to increasing the number of existing staff qualified to Technician and Senior Technician Level;
  2. attract more applicants from women and other under-represented groups into Vehicle Body and Paint posts at Levels 2 and 3;
  3. develop problem solving, communication, team working, literacy, numeracy and ICT skills which are a priority for the Automotive Retail Industry;
  4. provide micro businesses, which account for around 85% of businesses in the Automotive Retail Industry, with access to a quality training programme to help their businesses grow;
  5. provide opportunities for career progression within Vehicle Body and Paint and into management in the wider Automotive Retail Industry;
  6. After further development and training, provide further and higher education for those who choose to do so.

The duration of this apprenticeship is a minimum of 24 months. You will be required to attend college 1 day a week.

This is a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A*- E including: • GCSE Maths Grade E/3 or Functional Skill in Maths Level 1 • GCSE English Language Grade E/3 or Functional Skill in English Level 1 • GCSE ICT Grade E/3 or Functional Skill in ICT Level 1

Working in a role such as Panel Technician or a Paint Technician for a minimum of 30hours per week.

By the end of your apprenticeship you will have achieved:

FOR PANEL Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Body Competence Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Body Principles

FOR BODY REFINISHING Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Competence Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair Paint Principles

FOR BOTH Functional Skill in Maths Level 1 (if required) Functional Skill in English Level 1 (if required) Functional Skill in ICT Level 1 (if required) Employee Rights and Responsibilities Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

JOBS FOR PANEL: • On completion of this Intermediate Level Apprenticeship, apprentices will be competent to work as a Panel Technician. • Following further training and development, apprentices can progress to a range of jobs such as Senior Panel Technician, Body Shop Adviser or Service Adviser. JOBS FOR PAINT: • On completion of this Intermediate Level Apprenticeship, apprentices will be competent to work as a Paint Technician • Following further training and development, apprentices can progress to a range of jobs such as Senior Paint Technician, Body Shop Adviser or Service Adviser.

At the end of your apprenticeship, the college will work with you and your employer to help you go on to the next level of training or gain full-time employment, either with your current employer or another employer the college has access to. The skills, knowledge and qualification you will gain from your apprenticeship means that Havering College can help you get to the level employers are looking for.

Course Assessment Method

You will be assessed using a range of methods such as; Direct observation of tasks or activities, examination of work products produced by learners (e.g. diary notes, site notes, completed reports), examination of witness testimonies from people, other than the assessor, who are prepared to provide statements detailing specific details of learners’ performance, review of records of ‘question and answer’ sessions covering specific aspects of the knowledge and understanding and Professional discussion. All of these assessment methods will build your portfolio of evidence.
