Bruce Gordon-Picking (Chairman)

Bruce has been a Governor of the College since 1975. He first served as Vice Chairman with particular emphasis on financial matters. Since 1986, he has served as Chairman of Governors. He also chairs the Employment Policy & Finance Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Search Committee. He is a member of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and of the Audit Committee of Lifelong Learning UK, the Sector Skills Council for those teaching in the FE and HE sectors. He was a member of the Education Committee of the London Borough of Havering from 1974 until 1990 and is currently a Governor of the Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in Upminster and ViceChairman of its Educational Foundation.. |
Stan Rose (Vice Chair)

Stan’s association with the College dates from 1974, when he was a visiting lecturer on the North East Thames Regional Health Authority Senior Nursing Management courses. He subsequently lectured on numerous management courses held by the College for the NHS and was a visiting lecturer at the NE Thames Regional Training Centre. As a member of the College’s Business Liaison Committee he represented the College on the Havering Council Work Related Education Committee. Stan became a member of the Governing Body in 1990 and is now Vice Chairman of the Corporation. He also chairs the Governance Committee and Arts Festival Committee and is Vice Chairman of the Employment Policy and Finance Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Remuneration Committee He holds a Master of Arts degree in Manpower Studies and before retirement was employed locally in the NHS as an Associate Director. He has undertaken consultancies at King Fahad Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and at the Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street, at well as at Charing Cross and other London hospitals. He operated a private Advocacy, Industrial Relations and Training Service and was Personnel Consultant to a number of private sector organisations and charities, mainly advocating in Employment Tribunal cases. He is currently a Director and Trustee of the Synergy Drug & Alcohol Advisory service and Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Essex Respite Care Association. He is also Chairman of The Chelmsford Ballet Company (with which he still performs!). Stan had many artistic and sporting interests and was a long serving Divisional Training Officer in the Red Cross. Currently, he is learning to play the piano.

Noel Otley ( Principal and Chief Executive )

Noel Otley has a BA (Hons) in History and Politics, an MA (Ed) in Education and a PCGE. He has been in further education since 1973 and has held posts at every grade from part-time lecturer to Principal and Governor. He has taught English, History, Economics, General Studies, Trades Union Studies, Health & Safety to Trades Union representatives, Life & Social Skills, as well as teaching teachers on CGLI 7307 and Cert.Ed. programmes. In addition, he has taught for the Open University. His management roles in FE have included Head of Department at Bridgwater College 1984-91, Vice Principal at Oxford College 1991-95, Principal at Uxbridge College 1995-99 and Principal at Havering College from 1999 to present. He has three children and lives in Brentwood. |
Barbara Bows (Support Staff Governor)

Barbara joined the Corporation in March 2007. She has worked in finance departments for many years, gaining her AAT qualification in 1996. She has also had experience of most roles within finance. Barbara has worked for the College for 8 years and is currently the College’s Head of Management Accounts.

Bob Boustead (Investment Advisor)

Bob joined the Governing Body as a Business Governor in March 2002. He has extensive experience in investments and financial planning, with particular skills in the area of sales & marketing. Bob undertakes a Senior Examiner role in “Investment Planning” for a professional examining body. He has recently retired as a Governor of Redden Court School where e chaired the Curriculum Committee. Bob is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the Personal Finance Society |
Gerry Byrne |
Franchisee, McDonald’s Restaurants Romford Gerry joined the Governing Body in June 2008 having been a supporter of the ROSE project for the past two years, employing seven students with learning difficulties in his restaurants in Romford. He owns and operates the five McDonald’s Restaurants within Romford and is heavily involved with local community projects and business sponsorships. Gerry received The Mayor’s Civic Award and the Havering Business Person of the Year Awards in 2008. |
John Dryborough (Chartered Surveyor)

John joined the Governing Body as a Business Governor in March 2002. He chairs the Accommodation Strategy Committee and is a member of the Employment Policy and Finance Committee. John is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, with more than 40 years postqualification experience in all aspects of property, asset and portfolio management, both commercial and educational. As Director of Estates at South Bank University for 13 years, John devised an Estates Strategy to provide a single campus institution. This included some property disposal to fund new developments and provision of modern student residences. His interests include sport, theatre, cinema, travelling and photography. |
| Kim Guest (Chief Executive of HAVCO)

Having gained a BA in Theology, Kim has worked in the public and voluntary sector since leaving full time education. Kim started her working life for Nottinghamshire County Council as a buyer, then moved to Sefton Borough Council in Liverpool. Since moving to Essex, Kim worked for Lloyds Register as their Technical Librarian and then for the ME Association running helplines for ME sufferers and supporting the nationwide network of small support groups. She is currently CEO of HAVCO which is the Council for Voluntary Service in Havering, which seeks to promote and develop the voluntary sector in the borough and work in partnership with other agencies. She has been a Governor since October 2003. |
| Colin Harper (Secretary of the Havering Trades Council)

Recently retired, Colin worked as a Master of a River Thames tug, engaged in towing barges loaded with containerised refuse from west London transfer stations to landfill sites in Essex. He is a Freeman of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames which is a centuries old London trades guilde and also a member of the Unite the Union and serves as union branch chairperson. He is also secretary of the Havering trades Council, which is a delegate body representing branches of TUCaffiliated unions within the Borough of Havering. Colin joined the Governing Body as a representative of the Trades Union Council in 1986. He currently chairs the Student Governor Liaison Committee and is a member of the Search Committee. His personal interests include water transport, both recreational and commercial and sailing. |
Keith Hayward (Account Manager)

Keith works for the largest, independent Occupational Health provider in the UK. His role is in client relationship management, business development and performance monitoring. His previous work experience encompasses operational and contract management, business administration, finance and sales. In addition to his commercial experience, Keith trained as a lawyer, having been called to the Bar in 1996, and holds a Diploma in Financial Management. Keith joined the Governing Body in February 1999 and is Chair of the Audit Committee. |
Liz Pearson

Liz is Director of The Creative Way, a partnership of universities, colleges and training providers which works to link education and training to employment in the creative and cultural industries. She joined the Corporation in January 2007 and has been Chair of the Curriculum Committee since 2008. Liz has worked in the university sector for more than 20 years and also has experience of working in the voluntary sector. She is currently a Board member of Creative Capital.

Paul Rochford (Lecturer at Lambeth College)

Paul has a BA (Hons) in Government and Politics and an MSc in International Relations and has lectured at Lambeth College since 1985. He has served as Conservative member for Emerson Park on Havering Council since 1998 and is Cabinet Member for Skills and Young People which includes responsibility for Havering College and Sixth Form College, Adult Education, New 1419 Diploma. He is also the Havering Strategic Partnership's Champion for Health and Well Being. Paul is also the Chair of Governors at Havering Adult Education College. Paul has been a Governor at Havering since January 2004. |
Kabul Sandu (Teaching Staff Governor)

Kabul has been teaching since 1973, when he qualified as a history teacher with a Certificate in Education. He also hold a Diploma in Education and a Master of Arts degree. He has taught in the Borough of Havering for many years; for sixteen years in Havering secondary schools and the last ten years at Havering College. During his school teaching career, he has been a history teacher, Head of History Department, Assistant Examinations Officer and Coordinator of Personal and Social Education. At Havering College the subjects taught have ranged from GCSE History, A Level history, Government and Politics, AS sociology and ESOL (English for speakers of other languages). He has also been Coordinator for Open (Distance) Learning. Besides this he has worked on the college Humanities Degree programme teaching history and taught on modules on the social work Foundation degree programme. Currently he is teaching on the Essential Skills course in the Academy. |
Eric Hindson

Eric is a partner at Littlejohn LLP Chartered Accountants, a top 30 firm of chartered accountants based at Canary Wharf. He is a qualified chartered accountant and head of Littlejohn’s Business Advisory Division which specialises in advising entrepreneurial businesses. He provides audit, accountancy and business advice to SMEs, smaller listed companies and the UK subsidiaries of international companies. Eric joined the full Governing Body in February 2009 after being a coopted member of the Audit Committee for two years. He is also the nonexecutive chairman of a design and distribution business. |
Colin Vaughan

Colin is the Tool Room Manager at Ford Motor Company.
He joined the Corporation in June 2007 and is a member of the Audit and Accommodation Strategy Committees.
He has worked for Ford since 1979, his experience covering all aspects
of Human Resource management and is responsible for the provision of
press tools for all European Ford plants. |
