FULL-TIME ROUTE
Foundation Phase
Year 1 is college-based. Students are in college 4 days a week. Teaching sessions are generally between: 9am – 5pm. Students will have one clear off-site study day per week.
Students will need to complete 35 hours voluntary work and shadow a social worker for two days during their study periods off-site. During tthe first year, you will have a portfolio to complete to demonstrate your fitness to practice.
The year will begin at the end of September and end in mid June. This usually allows students time to work during the summer. There are lots of agencies who are interested in recruiting social work students.
Intermediate Phase
Year 2 is a combination of practice learning and college-based learning, with attendance being 4 days a week.
Students are in college until mid-January and then have 80 days out on their first practice learning opportunity. You will have support from the practice learning team and your personal tutor during the period.
Final Phase
Year 3 is also a combination of practice learning and college-based work. Students attend college one day per week and go out on practice for 4 days a week for a total of 120 days practice. Students will also be working on their dissertations over the course of the year. There is a final module focussing on preparing students for employment.
PART-TIME ROUTE
The part-time route follows the same pattern as the full-time route, but with each phase being extended to 18 months. Attendance is 2 day per week in the Foundation phase and 3 days per week for the remainder. The Final phase can be shortened by increasing the number of days per week out on practice. The part-time route will take between 4 and 5 years to complete.
