During the academic year the Youth Work Team organise a variety of which we hope will appeal to the wide variety of students at Havering College. These range from West End theatre trips, to paintball to outdoor activities such as climbing and kayaking. Trips are open exclusively to students at the College and are heavily subsidised by the Students’ Union so they are available at the lowest possible price. The selling of trip places works on a ‘first come first served’ basis, so students need to purchase their place quickly when the tickets go on sale.
Throughout the year Student Services organise many activities and events. These are often linked to our awareness weeks and months and include fun workshops such as t-shirt design, jewellery making and African drumming. There are quizzes and competitions to take part in, speakers from outside organisations and plenty of useful literature to collect. These awareness events include topics such as personal safety, leading a healthy lifestyle, drug & alcohol awareness and sexual health awareness.
The College’s Students’ Union also organise activities alongside Student Services which are often based around raising awareness, such as celebrating International Women’s Day, or fundraising activities. In recent years the Students’ Union has been successful in raising money for Children In Need, Breast Cancer Awareness, Comic Relief and ‘Jeans for Genes Day’.
