Rocking for charity
EXTENDED Diploma Music students from Havering College are planning to ‘raise the roof’ for Cancer Research UK by staging a Music Extravaganza on Sunday (May 27).
Rock for Life at the Romford United Services and Social Club (RUSSC) in Mawney Road, Romford, from 7pm will feature a variety of bands playing different styles of popular music for all tastes and generations.
This evening of musical delight is part of the students’ final major project before many of them head off to take up university places across the country or progress onto the BA Hons in Contemporary Music & Technology course at Havering College.
Students are being graded not only on their performances, but also their ability to organise the event successfully. The class have arranged everything themselves, including booking the venue, advertising, the programme for the night, liaising with the charity, producing posters, flyers and tickets.
There will be chances to win prizes in a raffle, with donation boxes on hand to boost proceeds for their chosen charity.
Havering College curriculum manager for Music, Dave Wood said: “I am really looking forward to this evening, which promises to be a really entertaining evening for all. The students have worked hard to make this a success.”
Tickets priced £3 (plus £1 p&p) are available from the event website at http://rockforlife.bigcartel.com/ or on the door.
