14/19 YEAR OLDS   |   16 - 19s & School Leavers

GCSEs and A Levels

The Academy has a well established A Level provision where students generally exceed their potential. You would normally undertake 3 to 4 AS levels in the first year and continue onto the A2 level in the second year. You will be allocated a personal tutor who will support you on your programme and through your UCAS application should you wish to apply for a university place at the end of your studies.

Students on A levels have excellent achievement and achieve good value added.

A levels require a high level of commitment and hard work. You must be prepared to attend 100% of lectures and be punctual. A levels do not suit everyone and you will receive individual advice and guidance and offered alternative courses, if appropriate.

There is a range of subjects that you can choose from and if necessary, you may be able to re-sit one of your GCSEs in the first year if you do not have the right grades when you start your course.

If you don't get the grades you expected at school, we are the only college in the area to offer a full-time GCSE re-sit programme in a range of subjects and this opens up a number of opportunities for progression with the college.

What qualifications do I need to study A Levels?

 Pathway

Course requirement

3 or 4 A/S Levels  6 Cs in relevant subjects including English and Maths
(GCSE point-score* should not be less than 5, unless taking sciences where it should be 5.5)

N.B. Students wanting to take three sciences e.g. Biology, Chemistry and Physics, should have GCSE Science grade B/B. All sciences require grade B in Maths.

*GCSE point-scores are obtained by allocating a score to the GCSE grade, adding these together then dividing by the number of GCSE subjects taken:

A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, C = 5, D = 4, E = 3 F = 2, G = 1

Note: The following courses are NOT taken into consideration for the purposes of calculating point-scores:
