Why did you choose Havering College?
I chose Havering College as it offered a course that was perfect for me, I am able to study for a recognised HE qualification whilst continuing to work. Gaining essential experience and making the first steps towards my new career without having to stop earning is vital for me as a mature student.

What subject are you studying? What do you feel you have achieved so far?
I am studying for the Foundation Degree in Teaching Assistants, a two year course where I spend one day a week at college and the rest of the time working in a school. My plan is to go on studying to become a teacher. Completing this course will open up a variety of routes into teaching, and most importantly ensures that I am constantly gaining vital on-the-job experience. Time spent actually in the classroom with the kids is priceless, and my course allows for the perfect mix of work experience and tuition.

What would you say to someone thinking of studying at Havering College?
Havering College really values the opinions of its students. I am a StAR (Student Academic Representative) and have raised a number of concerns and suggestions on behalf of my course-mates, all of which have been treated with respect and acted on. I am so pleased that the College is keen to listen to and act on feedback. As a student here you really feel that you are important, respected and valued, not only by your own tutors but by the College as a whole.
