Students put charity cash on the menu
CATERING students at Havering College have whipped up cash for charity by selling their festive food treats.
Their tasty puddings, cakes, pickles and preserves have raised £500 for Cancer Research UK.
The goodies were sold to customers at the popular Jubilee Restaurant – a training facility for the professional chefs of tomorrow.
The Jubilee Restaurant based at the Havering College Quarles Campus in Tring Gardens, Harold Hill is run by students on NVQ Professional Cookery and Food Service courses.
It is open to the public during term times for lunch, afternoon tea, fine dining evening meals and five course gourmet feasts.
In recent weeks customers have been snapping up a range of seasonal items produced by the students.
Cancer Research UK Area Volunteer Manager Peter Hall and Hornchurch Cancer Research charity shop volunteer Roger Moore visited the college to thank students and receive a cheque for £500.
Mr Hall said: “More and more people are surviving cancer and we are making real progress. Research is the greatest weapon we have but it is very expensive. The students are fabulous. By doing something they love with such passion and enthusiasm, they are really helping other people.”
