Abu Sayed Chowdhury from Bangladesh - Plumbing
Abu is from Bangladesh and has been living in the UK for 4 years. He studied Diploma in Plumbing at Havering College. He enjoyed learning about the fundamentals of plumbing and the lectures were easy to understand and interesting which motivated him throughout his studies. Abu found his teachers very supportive at all times while encouraging him in learning new aspects of plumbing. The use of new tools, materials and other resources helped him gain a better practical knowledge and experience.
He found that the college offers “a unique learning experience” and said: “I really liked learning at Havering College. It was the best choice for my course. I would definitely recommend this college to everyone”.
Michael Antwi from Ghana – Business
Michael is from Ghana and has been in the UK for 7 months. He started the course late and is grateful to his teachers for the support during term break when they worked with him to help him catch up on his course work. He enjoyed the lessons and praised the patience of his tutors explaining the concepts which he struggled with at times. He said that he is “really happy and proud to be in Havering College”.
Coker Alex Adu from Ghana – A levels
Coker has been living in the UK for 2 years and studied A levels at Havering College. His most memorable experience during his studies was when his tutor called him to encourage him after she noticed a decline in his academic performance. Her concern and care motivated him to improve. He is grateful to his teachers for their continuous support throughout his studies and also praises Student services for always being there for him. One of the best things about Havering College according to Coker is that here we promote equal treatment for all, regardless of race or background. When asked about the college, Coker went to say: “I would love to thank everybody in the college for making my A levels a success. I never thought that I had so much potential in me. You helped me uncover it and realise it”.
Aminat Adeola Adegoke from Nigeria – Children and Young people workforce
Aminat has been in the UK for 5 years and came to study a Diploma in Children and Young people workforce in Havering College. She enjoyed her lectures because she found them interactive and praised her tutors for the support and commitment they have to every student. Edem Brown from Ghana – Mechanical Engineering
Edem has been living in the UK only for 8 months and is studying Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering. He is very appreciative of the fact that the course allows him to use various equipment in the engineering workshops. Edem is grateful to his tutors who he finds very helpful and always ready to answer his questions. He says that “they try their best to help you pass your course”.
Caroline Zimano from Zimbabwe – Social Work
Caroline has been living in the UK for 12 years and have aspirations for a career in Social work which brought her to Havering College. Her most memorable experience was when she was offered a place on the course. The things she most like about her teachers are that they are helpful and patient. Caroline appreciates the support which she received throughout her studies and says it's “very high”. One of the best things at Havering according to Caroline is the diversity within the student and teaching body.
Andrei Adamtsuk from Estonia – Accounting
Andrei is in the UK for 3 years and has been studying the fast track of an Accounting course. At first he was concerned that being an International student will make it difficult to communicate with tutors and classmates but he soon found out that his classmates were very easy to interact with and his teachers were approachable and always helpful. He says that he “really enjoyed every minute of study” which is due to the great teachers who are always ready to explain difficult concepts. He found the library was particularly useful with the amount of available online and paper materials and quiet atmosphere.
Anika Huggins from Trinidad – Post Graduate Certificate of Education
Anika has the ambitions to become a teacher and has studied the Post Graduate Certificate of Education course in Havering College. Her highlight during her time with us was her nomination for the SUVA Student of the Year Award. She really enjoyed the peer support, professional learning environment and engaging discussions. According to Anika the best things in the college are the modern facilities, clean classrooms and compound and the supportive administrative staff, especially in Admissions.
Arturas Taleikis from Lithuania – ICT
Arturas arrived in the UK in the summer of July 2013 and enrolled with Havering College on a Computing course. His most memorable experience here is the induction day which included a trip to a lake! He found that the lectures are interesting which motivated him to learn further. Arturas commented that he really liked his lecturers had a real industry experience as they shared it in the classroom and made the lessons more interesting and relevant. According to Arturas: “This is the best college I have ever seen”.
