Kurt is one of the youngest coaches in England to hold the FA’s prestigious UEFA A Licence. He was one of the few coaches in England to be offered support by the Football Association as part of their COACH Bursary Programme. He has coached for approximately 10 years working with players from the grassroots level to the professional level. Kurt is currently an academy coach at Southend United Football Club and enjoys helping players develop.
Alongside the UEFA A licence coaching qualification, Kurt graduated from the University of Brighton with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Science. Additionally, he graduated from London Metropolitan University with a BSc in Sports Psychology & Performance. Kurt is also a qualified teacher possessing a Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS). He uses these academic and practical qualifications to aid the quality of his teaching in the classroom and on the pitch. Kurt currently teaches on our BTEC sport qualifications from Level 1 to Level 3 and is a grade 1 teacher.
Kurt played for Millwall Football Club from ages 11-16 on a schoolboy contract and then moved to Southend United FC as a scholar. Kurt spent three years at Southend United FC playing regularly for the youth and reserve teams.
Lauris is a UEFA B Licence holder with a strong background of working with young people in both sporting and educational settings. He currently works with some of the best young players in the country in his role at West Ham United FC as Academy Coach, having previously been employed within a similar role at Southend United FC.
Having played for Southend United between the ages of 12-18, representing the clubs Youth and Reserve sides, Lauris then furthered his education at the University of Bath where he graduated with a BSc in Sports Performance.
Additionally, Lauris holds the PTLLS teaching qualification and the FA Youth Modules both of which have enabled him to specialise in the development of young people. Lauris joined the college in 2014 and is responsible for the day to day coaching of the Academy players.
Stuart has over 10 years coaching experience. He is a Level 2 FA qualified coach and is due to start his UEFA B license course in 2016. He believes in not only helping students develop their educational skills but to also developing them as people. He studied a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport and also a Level 3 BTEC in Teaching & Educating.
He started his own football coaching company in 2010, First Kick Football, and he has gone on to coach at Southend United FC as an academy coach and he is currently working for Cambridge United FC in their recruitment team. As well as coaching at the College Stuart is also the coach for Brentwood Town FC under 21s. He has helped develop players for both professional and semi-professional clubs.
Stuart was a youth team player at Southend United FC and he was also a scholar at Boston United FC. Stuart spent the rest of his playing career at a number of semi-professional clubs.
Ben is one of the very few students to be awarded the opportunity to do an apprenticeship qualification at Havering College based on his academic and sport performance. Ben was awarded sports student of the year in 2014/15.
Ben is currently studying a sports development apprenticeship, he is also the strength and conditioning coach for the Football Academy.
Ben is also a qualified Level 2 Fitness Instructor along with being a Level 3 personal trainer. He manages the college gym on a daily basis helping the Football Academy players, college students and staff achieve their fitness goals. Ben’s speciality is improving aerobic endurance, power, speed and strength levels for sport and exercise. Ben also coaches the goalkeepers on the academy and assists with the defensive elements of training.
Ben completed the Football Academy course last year achieving a triple Merit grade which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. During his second year he was proud to captain the Football Academy. Ben has also achieved an FA Level 1 Coaching qualification.
Jack is one of the youngest individual’s in the UK to be efficient in training and match analysis. Jack is comfortable filming training or games and using the latest match analysis software. He provides feedback to individuals within the team, and provides feedback to the team as a whole and the coaching staff.
Jack is currently studying a Level 1 in Sport & Active Leisure at the College. Jack will be progressing onto the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Sport next year. He wa exemplry in behaviour and performance on his current course and was awarded free entry onto the FA Level 1 Coaching Qualification.
Jack’s long term goal is to become a Full-time Football Coach at a professional club. In the meantime, Jack wants to complete his FA coaching qualifications, continue to work as a performance analyst and complete his Level 2 qualification.
The Academy Trials are once a term and are open to over 16s. The next Trial is on Monday 30 May 2016 and you can be involved by filling in this form.

The Academy is located at the Quarles Campus of Havering College.
Players will train 3 times per week, with games being played on a Wednesday afternoon. The training will include team technical and tactical training, strength and conditioning work and video analysis. The players will study alongside this ensuring a holistic approach to their development.
The coaches are UEFA qualified and involved with professional academies working with some of the most talented young players in the country.

The partnership with Cambridge United allows talented players to be identified within the Havering area. This will offer a pathway to high achievers, with a member of the Cambridge United Recruitment Team regularly present.
Ideally we would like to see a player in order for our coaching staff to assess their ability. This can be done in either of the following ways:
The main BTEC in Sport course is for players aged between 16-19 years of age.
In most cases players would register on the BTEC in Sport college course. This would also be held at the Quarles Campus.
The courses last from 1 to 3 years, dependent on your age, chosen course and GCSE grades.
