If you are interested in carpentry and would like to progress into employment this may be the course for you. It will put you on the right road to a career in the Carpentry Construction Craft industry. This course is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Construction Skills provides you with an excellent initiation into the world of construction in order to enable you to decide whether this is a sector within which you feel you wish to work in the future.

There is an emphasis on you gaining practical skills. The qualification also promotes the development of wider employment skills, emphasising the importance of appropriate conduct and dress within a work area, customer service, customer care and safe working practices.

The aims of the qualification are: • To encourage the development of generic employability skills; • To promote the gaining of work-related skills within construction; • To prepare you for further training within construction.

These qualifications provide the ideal introduction to the construction industry and cover essential skills in the following construction trades: bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, plastering, painting and decorating, construction operations, wall and floor tiling, electrical and plumbing.

This course is designed for students who wish to enter the construction industry, but are unsure which profession they wish to follow. It is also suitable for mature students who wish to extend their technical knowledge of the construction industry.

You willl study health and safety, construction theory, construction drawing, mathmatics, science, sustainability, carpentry, painting and brickwork.

If you are interested in Brickwork and would like to progress into employment this may be the course for you. This course will assist you on the right road to a career in the Bricklaying and Construction industries. The course is suitable for all ages and abilities.

Topics include related aspects of Health and Safety Information, Quantities, Communication with others, Building methods and construction technology, Basic blocklaying skills, Basic cavity walling, Building basic masonry structures up to damp proof course level.

The construction industry has had for many years a traditional apprenticeship programme covering the craft occupations. This framework will help to attract, retain and develop talent into a range of craft occupations at Intermediate (Level 2) and Advanced (Level 3) in construction building and provide progression to supervisory and management level in order to provide the industry with a well-trained productive workforce.

The duration of this apprenticeship is generally 24 months.
